There are multiple truths only the mom of a redhead understands. Facts that become “part of life” when you give birth to a baby with red hair. Some are funny, others may make you cringe, most will surprise you. Here are my truths in no particular order. You know you’re the Mom of a Redhead when…
You Know You’re the Mom of a Redhead When…
You can look up and instantly spot your kid in a crowd.
You have a stubborn, independent child who likes to do things “her way” (okay, this probably not true for all redheads but it is definitely true for mine.)
You never dress your little carrot in neon colors (it clashes with red hair).
Attention from Strangers
You put a hat on your kid’s head before going into a store so you won’t get bombarded with questions about red hair.
You avoid certain check-out lines at the grocery store because you don’t want to hear another redhead story.
Everyone has to tell you who has (or had) red hair in their lives.
Everyone comments on your kid’s hair and then turns to you and says “Oh, your hair is pretty too.”
People ask you all the time – “Where did your baby get that red hair from?”
Strangers bend down and tell your 2-year-old child to never dye her hair (like she understands what that means!)
Children run over to pat your child’s head because they’ve never seen red hair before.
You check your baby every day for new freckles.
You can name every brand of sunscreen out there.
You apply sunscreen with SPF 70 even if going outside for only 10 minutes.
You only take your family to the beach after 4 PM.
Sensitive Skin/Fair Skin
Your child bruises easily and constantly has bruises on both legs.
You study ingredient labels to make sure products won’t irritate your child’s sensitive skin.
You worry whenever your child eats strawberries, tomatoes, or cinnamon because it makes the skin around the mouth turn red.
You have a kid that blushes easily.
You feel grateful to have been given this mystical creature to take care of 🙂
